Rite Window of New England is an EPA Certified Contractor

EPA Lead SafeA new federal law mandating lead-safe practices went into effect April 2010. The law requires contractors working on homes built before 1978 be certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and follow specific procedures to prevent lead contamination.

Rite Window is an EPA certified contractor. Our installation crews have completed the required EPA training and our company practices the lead-safe procedures now required by law.

These include:

  • Containing the work area to prevent exposure beyond the site
  • Using construction methods that minimize the creation of dust
  • Cleaning the work area of dust, wood chips, and construction debris
  • Removing old windows and debris from the property for proper disposal

Lead-based paint was deemed a health hazard and banned in 1978; therefore lead-safe practices are only required in homes built before 1978. By following the procedures outlined in the new law the possibility of construction activities disturbing lead paint and creating a health risk is prevented.

While the mandated lead-safe practices add to time and materials cost, Rite Window and other legitimate companies do not profit from the added cost. The goal is to eliminate all possible environmental hazards and ensure the health and safety of our customers.

When choosing a contractor always ask to see their EPA certification. Any contractor working on a pre-1978 home without EPA certification is breaking the law and putting you and your family at risk. Violation of this federal law carries significant fines for both the contractor and homeowner.
