When considering energy-efficient windows in Boston, you will want to look for the following energy-saving properties:
Beginning January 1st, 2016, the rating requirement to become Energy Star-certified was revised to require windows to have a U-Factor of 0.27 instead of 0.30 – creating a stricter standard for a higher level of thermal efficiency. As an Energy Star partner, Rite Window only offers new energy-efficient windows that meet or exceed the new 0.27 U-Factor requirement .
This rating represents how well a window prevents heat from escaping your home, and the lower the U-Factor number the better the window’s insulating properties. Windows with Low-E coated glass offer significantly better insulating properties. As an Energy Star partner, Rite Window’s Low-E coated green windows have a U-Factor equal to or less than 0.27, offering superior insulation and the ability to qualify your new energy-efficient windows for a tax credit.
The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to help consumers compare the energy efficiency of windows. As a participant in the NFRC program, we accurately label all of our green windows with their respective thermal performance and U-Factor ratings.
The performance of new energy-efficient windows is improved by the addition of argon or krypton gas between the window panes. Rite Window uses clean, odorless, nontoxic argon gas in our window construction – improving performance by 10-15%
When choosing new energy-efficient windows for your home, it is important to do your research before settling on the product that is right for you. While considering the different window models available, remember that the U-Factor rating must reflect the whole window in order to be accurate, and R-Values are not recognized as an insulation determinant when assessing the performance of green windows.
For added insulation, our windows can be fitted with triple-pane glass to further lower their U-Factor to 0.20 – one of the lowest window values in the industry.
